Patiala:SAMARTH Mission – one-day training cum awareness program on “Use of biomass in Thermal Power Plants”

A one-day training cum awareness program on “Use of biomass in Thermal Power Plants” was organizedunder SAMARTH mission, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India in association with National Power Training Institute, Nangal on16 July 2025at AmarBanquet,Patiala, Punjab. The event was attended by Mission officials, more than 200 farmers/ FPOs/ TPPOfficials/Bankers/ Entrepreneursand Pellet Manufacturers. Faculty from the SAMARTH Mission,Agriculture Dept. Punjab, SBI, Global Naamdhari Engineers and PSPCL shared knowledge through sessions on biomass pellet manufacturing technology, pellet manufacturing equipment, torrefaction of biomass, and financial schemes for pellet manufacturing etc.

 

 

 

Dr. M RavichandraBabu, Director, NPTI, Nangal presented the welcome address and highlighted objective of mission and benefits of pellet manufacturing for farmers as wells as in Thermal power plant. He also addressed the audience that more employment will come to support energy transition and promote green energy resources.

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. A S Maan,Agriculture Officer, Agriculture Dept., Punjab addressed the gathering and highlighted availability of raw biomass availability in Patiala, He also motivated the farmers for use of biomass in making of pellets for use of biomass in thermal power plant He also thanked NPTI & Mission officials for organisingthis program at Patiala.

 

 

 

SAMARTH Mission Director, Sh. Anil Baweja, Chief Guest inaugurated the program andhas motivated the gathering and touching upon technical and financial aspects of raw biomass availability and supply chain management. He has also encouraged FPO’s, New Entrepreneurs to venture into the sector as it is highly profitable. He also told that how the Govt. will help the farmers and Entrepreneurs with various schemes and help in promoting green initiatives at grassroot level. He has also highlighted that huge amount of unused surplus biomass is available in the country, which is mostly being burnt in India. If this unused agro-residue biomass is used for making pellets which can be one of the best solutions to the twin problems of stubble burning as well as power & coal shortage.

 

 

 

Farmers, Entrepreneur and pellet manufacturers were encouraged to set up FPO and foray into the businesses of stubble collection as well as biomass pellet manufacturing as there is a huge opportunity in the sector and demand for pellets is poised for huge growth in coming years. There was good interaction with all the stakeholders participated in the program.
