Desh Bhagat University Hosts Ph.D Scholars for Enriching Orientation Programme
Mandi Gobindgarh, 12 September : Desh Bhagat University rolled out the red carpet for more than 100 newly enrolled PhD scholars, including a major group of international students, at a rich and interactive Orientation Program conducted at the revered Mahapragya Hall today. The event was carefully planned by the Directorate of Research and aimed at welcoming the scholars to the research rich environment of the university seamlessly.
The programme began on a warm note and an inspiring speech by Vice-Chancellor Dr Harsh Sadawarti. He highlighted the university’s dedication to creating a world-class research ecosystem and urged the scholars to welcome innovation and thinking. “Your sojourn here is not merely about acquiring a degree; it’s about expanding the frontiers of knowledge, making a difference, and emerging as leaders in your chosen fields,” remarked Dr Sadawarti.
The inaugural function was presided over by the illustrious Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur. Dr. Zora Singh, while delivering the inaugural address, welcomed the scholars wholeheartedly, calling upon them to commit themselves to productive research that solves problems for society. “Desh Bhagat University is where dreams soar high, and we are here to equip you with all the resources and assistance to transform your academic dream into a reality,” he said, his words echoed with inspiration. Dr Tajinder Kaur again asserted the university’s focus on academic success and scholarly endeavors.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Amarjit Singh then took the students deep into the research academics of the university, discussing the strong frameworks and opportunities that were open to the students. This was followed by Director Research, Prof. Ajay Gupta giving a detailed tour of the entire PhD program life cycle, from coursework to thesis submission. He explained several awards and offers available to researchers, and significantly, pointed out the paid teaching assistantships for PhD scholars available to them, an effort aimed at helping them pursue their academic course and gain meaningful teaching experience.
In addition to the academic deliberations, the event also showcased the multicultural abilities of the new student cohort. New PhD students Mr. Gunjan Channa, Ms. Manisha, and Ms. Rashmi dazzled everyone with stunning musical and dance performances, bringing in a colorful cultural flavor to the orientation.
The day ended with a warm vote of thanks addressed by Dean Research Prof. Harpreet Singh, who thanked all the dignitaries, faculty, staff, and above all the eager new scholars for their active involvement. Prior to this, all the scholars interacted directly with Deans/Directors and teaching staff of their respective departments and answered their subject related questions.
