Punjab News: Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Organizes Expert Talk on Hemophilia
The Department of Biotechnology, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib successfully organised an Expert Talk on the occasion of World Hemophilia Day to raise awareness about hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. The event was aligned with the global theme, “Diagnosis: First Step to Care,” which underscores the critical role of early and accurate diagnosis in ensuring timely treatment and enhancing the quality of life for patients.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Jasdeep Kaur (MD Pathology), former faculty at Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh, and currently associated with Adesh Medical College, Ambala. In her informative and engaging session, Dr. Kaur provided a comprehensive overview of hemophilia, covering its genetic basis, types, clinical manifestations, and contemporary diagnostic techniques. She also highlighted the importance of laboratory investigations, early screening, and recent advancements in treatment, including factor replacement therapy and prophylactic care.
Dr. Kaur stressed that a large number of hemophilia cases remain undiagnosed, especially in developing countries. She called for greater public awareness, accessible diagnostic facilities, and multidisciplinary management approaches to reduce morbidity and improve patient outcomes. The session also touched upon the psychosocial challenges faced by patients and the vital role of patient education and family support.
The event saw active participation from faculty members and students, who greatly benefited from the expert insights. An interactive Question & Answer session allowed participants to engage directly with Dr. Kaur and address their queries.
