Patiala News:PPCB’s Mission Clean Patiala Gains Momentum as Citizens, Students and Government Unite for Cleaner Streets

Reinforcing the belief that environmental protection is a shared responsibility, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), in collaboration with the District Administration and Municipal Corporation, Patiala, organised a cleanliness drive on Nabha Road today under its flagship Mission Clean Patiala campaign.
Held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from Reena Gupta, Chairperson, Punjab Pollution Control Board; Pooja Sayal Grewal, Municipal Commissioner, Patiala; and senior officials from the Board, Punjab Road Transport Corporation, Departments of Water Supply and Sanitation, Public Works, Irrigation and Drainage, among others.
Adding youthful energy to the initiative, students from Blossoms Senior Secondary School and Government ITI College, Patiala joined hands with officials and citizens to clean the stretch. Members of “Mera Patiala Main Hi Sawara”, a voluntary citizens’ group dedicated to keeping Patiala clean, also participated wholeheartedly, demonstrating the growing public ownership of the campaign.
Chairperson, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Ms. Reena Gupta, said that “The cleanest cities are not built by governments alone—they are built when every citizen believes that the street outside their home, office or institution is their own responsibility. We have brought premier institutions, enforcement agencies and community groups of Patiala onboard. If every institution adopts one public space and contributes just a few hours each month, we can create a cleaner, healthier and more liveable Punjab.”
Launched in April 2026, Mission Clean Patiala has evolved into a city-wide people’s movement. More than 30 institutions have already partnered with the initiative, including 18 schools, 10 colleges, and four premier organisations, each adopting public spaces for cleanliness drives and environmental stewardship.
As part of the next phase of the campaign, participating institutions will continue undertaking cleanliness drives across different parts of the city on scheduled days. The Punjab Pollution Control Board will shortly release the calendar for the upcoming activities to encourage wider public participation, said Chairperson.
Since the kickstarting of the Mission Clean Patiala campaign, over 650 participants have participated in about 28 cleanliness and awareness drives at roads nearest to their institutions. It includes 20 educational institutions, namely Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Government Senior Secondary Civil Lines School, Government ITI College, Multani Mal Modi College, DAV Public School, Mata Sahib Kaur Khalsa Girls College, Budha Dal Public School, Govt Multipurpose Senior Secondary School, Kaintal Senior School, Govt State College of Education, The British Co-ed School, Yadavendra Public School, Blossoms Senior Secondary School, Our Lady of Fatima Convent School, Guru Nanak Foundation Public School, Aurobindo Public School, Punjabi University Patiala, Modern Senior Secondary School, Govt Polytechnic College and Shivalik Public School. These institutions are not only cleaning the roads but also exploring innovative ideas to beautify the surroundings. Among premier institution participants are Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Station HQ Patiala and Department of Horticulture.
The Punjab Pollution Control Board reiterated that improving air quality and urban cleanliness requires sustained public participation alongside administrative action. Through Mission Clean Patiala, the Board aims to foster long-term behavioural change, encourage community ownership of public spaces, and create a replicable model of citizen-led environmental action for cities across Punjab.
