Patiala News:Second Voter Registration Camp Organised at Govt. Bikram College of Commerce, Patiala

Govt. Bikram College of Commerce, Patiala, organised the second Voter Registration Camp under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, following the directions of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab. The camp was organised under the guidance of Principal Prof. Skinder Kaur Brar with the objective of encouraging young citizens to participate actively in the democratic process and facilitating their enrolment as voters. The first camp was organised on 25 August 2026 in which around 350 students were assisted in submitting their applications during the camp. The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation, with more than 300 students attending the event. Students were guided about the eligibility criteria, voter registration process, correction of voter details and the online facilities available for enrolment. The Chief Guest, Deputy Mayor, Patiala and Main State Secretary S. Jagdeep Singh Jagga, interacted with the students and appreciated the college’s efforts towards promoting electoral awareness among the youth. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the significant role played by young voters in strengthening democracy. He encouraged the students to exercise their right to vote responsibly and to remain aware of issues concerning society and the nation. He also urged them to motivate their friends and family members to ensure that eligible citizens are registered as voters. Principal Prof. Skinder Kaur Brar welcomed the Chief Guest and emphasised that electoral participation is an essential component of responsible citizenship. She stated that educational institutions have an important role in creating awareness among young people about their democratic rights and responsibilities. She encouraged the students to complete their voter registration and become informed and responsible participants in the electoral process. The camp was coordinated by Dr Rajni Bala, College SVEEP Nodal Officer, along with committee members Asst. Prof. Dilpreet Kaur, Asst. Prof. Samandeep Kaur, Asst. Prof. Suman Bala, Asst. Prof. Nancy Sharma, Asst. Prof. Yadwinder Singh and Dr Swati Gupta. The committee members assisted the students throughout the registration process and ensured the smooth conduct of the camp. Dr Rajni Bala conducted the stage proceedings and presented the vote of thanks. The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students and served as a useful platform for creating awareness about voter registration and strengthening democratic participation among the youth.
