Rahul Gandhi Raises ‘Vote Chori’ Issue, But Congress Leaders Were Missing When Issue Came Up in Punjab Vidhan Sabha: Angad Deep Singh Sohal

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab leader Angad Deep Singh Sohal on Friday strongly criticised Congress leaders for creating a ruckus and behaving disrespectfully with police personnel, pointing out such incidents reflect the VIP culture and sense of entitlement that Congress cultivated during its years in power in Punjab. He asserted that Congress leaders seem to believe they are above the law, but must understand that police stations are meant to serve ordinary citizens, not become centres of political ‘gundagardi’.

Addressing a press conference, AAP leader Angad Deep Singh Sohal stated, “Since the Bhagwant Mann government came to power in Punjab in 2022, the rule of law has been firmly established in the state. No politician has the right to intimidate or question police personnel who are performing their official duties. What message are leaders like Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa trying to send through such behaviour? Anyone who obstructs or disrespects on-duty police personnel will face appropriate action.”

Angad Deep Singh Sohal added, “Congress leaders must remember that police stations are not their ancestral property where they can enter with their supporters and create an atmosphere of intimidation. They are public institutions meant to serve people, not satisfy the egos of Congress politicians. I challenge Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh and the party’s national leadership to clarify whether this kind of gundagardi inside police stations is what they consider their Punjab model.”

Praising Punjab Police, the AAP leader emphasised, “Punjab Police is among the finest police forces in the country and has played a historic role in eliminating terrorism from Punjab. Police personnel work day and night to ensure public safety and provide assistance to ordinary citizens. The medals they wear on their chests have been earned through years of hard work, dedication and sacrifice. The police force is not anybody’s personal property or political inheritance.”

He asserted, “Congress has no public vision or meaningful issues to raise and is therefore resorting to such theatrics. Congress leaders frequently claim that law and order has collapsed in Punjab, but when the police perform their duties, the same leaders enter police stations and create a ruckus. Will the Congress leadership take any action against its leaders for the manner in which they behaved with police personnel?”

Angad Deep Singh Sohal further pointed out, “Rahul Gandhi repeatedly raises allegations of Vote Chori, yet when the issue was raised in the Punjab Assembly, Congress leaders were conspicuously absent. The people of Punjab removed Congress from power in 2022 and placed it in the opposition. Instead of playing a constructive role, its leaders are now frustrated and creating scenes inside police stations.”

Concluding, Angad Deep Singh Sohal stated, “Democracy gives power to the people, while the law provides the authority to ensure justice and order. The law is equal for everyone. The Bhagwant Mann government stands firmly with every police officer who performs their duty honestly and fearlessly. From the ongoing Yudh Nashean Virudh against drugs to Gangstran Te Vaar, Punjab Police has stood shoulder to shoulder with the government, helping maintain peace and security in the state. The government will continue to support its police force in protecting Punjab and its people.
