Desh Bhagat University’s School of Nursing Observes World Breastfeeding Week with Community Awareness Drive
Mandi Gobindgarh, August 8: The School of Nursing at Desh Bhagat University successfully observed World Breastfeeding Week under the global theme “Prioritize Breastfeeding – Create Sustainable Support Systems.” The event focused on raising awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and encouraging supportive environments for mothers and infants in both healthcare and community.
The awareness activities took place at the Community Health Centre, Amloh, District Fatehgarh Sahib, where nursing students and faculty conducted health talks, skits, and role-plays to engage the public. These sessions emphasized exclusive breastfeeding, proper techniques, and the critical role of families and healthcare workers in supporting mothers.
The event was led by Prof. (Dr.) Lovesampuranjot Kaur, Principal,Dr. Prabhjot Singh, Deputy Director and Prof. Sukhwinder Kaur, Vice Principal of the School of Nursing.
B.Sc. Nursing (2nd Semester) and GNM (1st Year) students actively participated, addressing key topics such as the nutritional value of breast milk, immunity-building, and the importance of early initiation and exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months.
Dr. Zora Singh, Hon’ble Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University and Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro-Chancellor praised the initiative and commended the dedication of the faculty and students. The event was coordinated by Ms. Gurwinder Kaur, Ms. Sandeep Kaur, and Ms. Ramanjeet Kaur, reflecting the School’s ongoing commitment to maternal and child health outreach.
