DBU Hosts Awareness Workshop on “SWAYAM and SWAYAM PRABHA” in Collaboration with SWAYAM Local Chapter

Mandi Gobindgarh, 13 September: Department of Business Management and Commerce in association with SWAYAM (Local Chapter), Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh conducted a one-day online Awareness Workshop on “SWAYAM and SWAYAM PRABHA.” The workshop was designed to acquaint students and faculty members with the Government of India’s digital education initiatives under the Ministry of Education.
The function was initiated by Ms. Prabhjeet Kaur, Teaching Assistant, by welcoming with a warm smile the distinguished guests: Dr. Zora Singh, Hon’ble Chancellor, and Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, who were the Chief Guests of honor on the occasion. Special invitees comprised Dr. Sandeep Singh, President; Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Amarjit Singh, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academics); and Dr. Rajni Saluja, Department of Business Management and Commerce Director and Dr. Khushboo Bansal, Deputy Director, Faculty of Engineering Technology and Computing. Guest speaker for the workshop was Er. Manpreet Singh, Educational Multimedia Research Centre Research Officer, Punjabi University, Patiala.
Dr. Zora Singh Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University congratulated the department for successfully conducting the workshop and highlighted the increasing importance of digital learning platforms in the current scenario of education, particularly in the post-pandemic scenario. Dr. Singh urged students to tap into the vast bank of academic opportunities through programs such as SWAYAM and SWAYAM PRABHA.
Dr. Rajni Saluja, Director, Department of Business Management and Commerce presented the welcome address formally, emphasizing the department’s consistent focus on digital literacy and e-learning. She mentioned how platforms like SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) and SWAYAM PRABHA have not only democratized access to quality education but specifically impacted students in remote and rural areas.
The technical presentation was presented by Er. Manpreet Singh, Research Officer, Educational Multimedia Research Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala who presented an in-depth overview of the SWAYAM platform. He outlined how students can register for a range of free online courses from top Indian institutions, including IITs, IIMs, and central universities. He also illustrated the course registration procedure and evaluation process.
In addition, he familiarized participants with the SWAYAM PRABHA program, a cluster of 40 DTH channels airing high-quality education content 24/7. The session was accompanied by live demonstrations, highlighting how students could access taped lectures, assignments, and study material from various subjects.
This was followed by an interactive Q&A period, in which students and faculty members were actively engaged. The feedback from the attendees was extremely positive, with many indicating eagerness to register for courses that corresponded to their academic and professional objectives.
Finally, at the end of the workshop, Dr. Rajni Saluja delivered a sincere vote of thanks to all dignitaries, resource persons, faculty members, and students for their worthy contributions.
