Desh Bhagat University Organises Cultural Programme and Pad Yatra Unity March
Mandi Gobindgarh, November 11: The NSS Unit of Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh in association with Mera Yuva Bharat, Fatehgarh Sahib organized a Cultural Programme and Pad Yatra@150 Unity March to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India.
The Chief Guest, who graced this event, was Dr. Zora Singh Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University. Other dignitaries who were part of this event included Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro-Chancellor; Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Precious Sheoran, Director, Faculty of Education; Mr. Satish Kumar, Programme Coordinator, NSS DBU; Mr. Kartik Singla, District Youth Officer, Mera Yuva Bharat, Fatehgarh Sahib; SHO Baljinder Singh Kang, Amloh; Mr. Harmandeep Singh from the District Employment Office; and Mr. Karnvir Tohra, BJP Leader, Amloh.
Dr. Zora Singh Chancellor and Chief Guest, while addressing the gathering, paid rich tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, recalling his unparalleled contribution as the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India. Dr. Singh remembered the pivotal role Patel had played in integrating over 565 princely states into the Indian Union and restoring peace during the partition. He termed Patel as the “Iron Man of India” and also as the “Patron Saint of India’s Civil Services.” He highlighted the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, as a symbol of national pride and unity.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Vice-Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University said that the programme was a movement of nationalism. He echoed Patel’s belief in public service, integrity and impartiality, quoting Patel’s message to civil servants to remain free from political and communal influences and to uphold dignity of administration.
Mr. Kartik Singla, District Youth Officer, Mera Yuva Bharat, Fatehgarh Sahib, called the initiative a great and special gesture toward a true national hero, who played a very significant role in molding strong and united India.
As part of the celebration, a Tree Plantation Drive was led by Mr. Satish Kumar, Programme Coordinator, NSS DBU, on November 7, 2025, where 100 saplings including guava, neem, peepal, and mango trees were planted within the university campus. An Essay Writing Competition on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was also organised, which saw enthusiastic participation from over 100 students.
This was followed by the cultural performances, after which Dr. Zora Singh, Hon’ble Chancellor, and Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Vice-Chancellor, flagged off the Pad Yatra@150 Unity March with 500 students walking from Desh Bhagat University to Amloh and back. The rally was fully supported by the Amloh Police and a medical assistance team for student safety. Mera Yuva Bharat distributed T-shirts and refreshments to all participants, marking the event as a grand success and a vibrant expression of unity, patriotism, and youth energy.
