The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will organise a National Townhall Against E20 at the Constitution Club in Delhi on Saturday, bringing together people from across the country to share their experiences and concerns over E20 blended petrol, both online and offline. The townhall comes amid the party’s campaign questioning the Centre’s claims that E20 is safe for older vehicles.
Announcing the National Townhall Against E20, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said, “A nationally renowned personality will join me at the National Townhall Against E20 to hear people’s concerns and help arrive at a decision on E20-Blended petrol. I appeal to people across the country to participate in the townhall, either offline or online, and put forward their views.”
The AAP has been consistently raising concerns over the impact of E20 petrol on vehicles. While the Central Government maintains that E20 is safe even for older vehicles, the party revealed that its use is damaging older vehicles and reducing their mileage.
In this regard, the AAP Chief had written to 29 automobile manufacturers across the country, urging them to clarify in writing whether E20 is safe for older vehicles and whether its use has any adverse impact on them. He had also asked, “If E20 damages vehicles, who will compensate vehicle owners for the losses?”
AAP shared that none of the 29 automobile manufacturers responded to Arvind Kejriwal’s letter. However, the party said that representatives of nine companies told Arvind Kejriwal during meetings that E20 is not safe for older vehicles.
Earlier this week, Arvind Kejriwal had announced the National Townhall Against E20 at a press conference to initiate a nationwide discussion on the issue. People can participate in the event both online and offline. The party has already released the online participation link, with thousands of people expressing interest in joining virtually, while a large number of people from Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are also expected to attend the townhall in person.
