Patiala News:Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, to Celebrate National Sports Day with Cross-Country Race on 29 August

The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), Patiala, will observe National Sports Day 2026 on Saturday, 29 August, with a Cross-Country Race bringing together students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff of the University in a spirited celebration of sport and fitness.
The event will begin with an Opening Ceremony at the Athletic Track of Prof. Gursewak Singh Government College of Physical Education, Patiala, where participants are required to report by 5:30 AM for attendance and briefing. The race itself will be flagged off by Chief Guest Gurlal Singh, MLA, Ganaur, Guest of Honour, and Former Olympian Rupa Saini at 5:45 AM. Runners will follow a specified route starting from the College Athletic Track, proceeding via Model Town Lights and Thapar University, and finishing at the MBSPSU Gate, where the Closing Ceremony will be held. Water points and support vehicles will be stationed along the route to ensure the safety and convenience of all participants. A Medal Ceremony recognising the top performers in each category will follow at the Handball Court, concluding with refreshments for participants and officials.
University authorities have urged all students, teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff to participate in maximum numbers to make the event a success, and have appealed to teachers to motivate students to take part and ensure their attendance.
National Sports Day is observed every year on 29 August to mark the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, and to promote awareness about the importance of sports and physical fitness in everyday life.
The event is being organised under the able guidance of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill, Director of Sports Dr.Amarpreet Singh, and Principal (PGSGCPE) Dr. Harmanpreet Kaur.
