With the aim of making Punjab’s cities clean , green, and healthy , the Bhagwant Mann government today launched the “Mission Clean Punjab” campaign in the state’s urban areas. As part of this special 10-day cleanliness drive, which runs from August 29th to September 7th, cabinet ministers , MLAs , mayors , municipal councilors, and senior officials are personally visiting the cleanliness drive every morning to inspect the arrangements and accelerate the pace of cleaning.
Based on the motto ” Clean Punjab , Proud Punjab,” this campaign will specifically focus on identifying and eliminating garbage hotspots where garbage is repeatedly dumped. Special teams will thoroughly clean these areas and ensure that garbage does not accumulate there again.
Harjot Singh Bains led the cleanliness drive in Nangal
Local Bodies Minister Harjot Singh Bains led the campaign in Nangal, Sri Anandpur Sahib. He personally participated in the cleaning activities and interacted with sanitation workers and local residents.
Meanwhile , the Local Bodies Minister said that the ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ campaign demonstrates the Punjab government’s commitment to providing a clean and healthy city to its people. He said , ” Cleanliness cannot be the sole responsibility of sanitation workers ; rather, citizens , shopkeepers, and the local community should also actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean.”
Minister Harjot Singh Bains said , “ This campaign will not be limited to a one-time clean-up ; instead, it will focus on creating a sustainable cleaning system , with regular monitoring and action against frequent garbage dumping sites.” He also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the administration and not throw garbage in public places.
Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan felicitates sanitation workers in Kotkapura
Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan also launched the campaign in Kotkapura. Here , he felicitated the sanitation workers for their contribution in keeping the city clean and later joined them in the cleaning work. He said , “ Under Mission Clean Punjab , secondary waste collection centres and garbage dumping points in Kotkapura and other parts of Faridkot district will be thoroughly cleaned. This campaign is a collaborative effort not only of the sanitation workers but also of the district administration , municipal councils and officials of all concerned departments.”
Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said , “ The list of sanitation workers deployed in different wards and their colleagues/supervisors working with them has been prepared and will be made available on the government portal to ensure greater transparency and accountability.”
Appealing to the people to actively participate in the cleanliness drive , Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that public support is essential to ensure that the results of this drive remain even after its completion .
Entire Punjab joins the campaign: Ministers and MLAs take charge
This state-level campaign saw active participation of ministers and elected representatives in several cities , where public representatives themselves participated in the cleanliness activities and inspected the cleanliness arrangements at the ground level.
Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh led the campaign by personally cleaning Thapar Chowk in Patiala. Emphasizing the link between cleanliness and public health , Dr. Balbir Singh said that filth and garbage piles are the cause of the spread of many diseases.
Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat participated in a cleanliness drive near Nakodar Chowk in Jalandhar , while Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO led the drive in Jandiala Guru along with the Municipal Council Chairman, councillors and sanitation workers. Harbhajan Singh ETO appealed to residents and shopkeepers to consider maintaining cleanliness a shared civic responsibility.
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saundh launched the cleanliness drive from the Khanna Municipal Council office , while MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa launched the drive in Baltana (Zirakpur) along with councillors , ward in-charges, and officials. The drive was carried forward with the message of making Zirakpur clean and garbage-free.
In Amritsar , MLA Dr. Ajay Gupta and Mayor Jatinder Pal Singh Moti Bhatia led the cleanup drive. In Fatehgarh Sahib , MLA Advocate Lakhbir Singh Rai led the drive launched by the Sirhind Municipal Council.
MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj participated in the cleanliness drive from Khanda Chowk to Punia Tower via Haripura in Sangrur and also joined the drive at Toor Patti Park in Bhawanigarh.
In Moga, MLA Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora and Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia led the cleanliness drive. MLA Rupinder Singh Happy and SDM Deepjot Kaur inspected the drive in Bassi Pathana , while MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal oversaw the cleanup work in Phagwara.
In Ajnala, MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal led a cleanliness drive , which included the SDM, EO, and AAP volunteers. During the drive, piles of garbage were removed from various locations.
People can report garbage spots through the M-Seva app
The Punjab government has also sought active public participation in “Mission Clean Punjab.” Citizens will be able to send photos of garbage and dirty areas in their area through the M-Seva app , which will help the administration identify problem areas and take timely action.
The government has appealed to the people not to throw garbage in public places and cooperate with the Municipal Corporation/Council in maintaining cleanliness around their homes and business places.
The aim of the ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ campaign is not just to clean the cities for 10 days , but to strengthen the urban sanitation system and create a culture of cleanliness across Punjab forever.
