Patiala News:”Let’s not burn stubble, let’s save Mother Earth and the environment.”

Under the leadership of Mandeep Singh, Agriculture Officer of Block Bhunnarheri, Punjab Government and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, under the Chhrm (Crop Residue Management) campaign by the Agriculture Department to prevent burning of paddy stubble, a special activity was organized by Mrs. Balwinder Kaur, Agricultural Extension Officer, at Government Senior Secondary Boys School, Sanaur to make students aware about the ill effects of stubble burning. On this occasion, the students were given information about the air pollution, respiratory diseases, reduction in soil fertility and loss of beneficial microorganisms present in the soil due to stubble burning. They were motivated to manage stubble properly instead of burning it and adopt environment-friendly farming methods.

The students were told that by mixing the stubble in the field and managing it through other suitable methods, the health of the soil can be improved and the environment can be protected from pollution. The main objective of this campaign was to make the students aware of environmental conservation and through them to convey the message of not burning stubble to the farmers and the general public. The students were also encouraged to motivate their families and the people around them for proper management of stubble. The Agriculture Department is continuously making efforts through such activities to make the farmers and students aware, so that the goal of creating a clean environment, healthy soil and a green Punjab can be achieved.
